SECURITY IN CALABAR

Trends in Nigeria has shown that our country is beginning to suffer from diverse forms of security issues; ranging from bomb-blast to militancy attack, to kidnapping and even to bank & jail breaks, our people have now been compelled to live in utter fear.

Sadly, this security breach is fast spreading into all geopolitical zones in the country without the government putting in place any credible and effective measure to curb this crimes. I often wonder how many more lives we need to loose before we can rise to this challenge or how many more complains we need to publish before the information sinks. Whether we like it or not, this issue of insecurity is fast becoming a national problem which might lead to a national divide.

Recently, the assumed most beautiful city of Nigeria, Calabar has been under the spell of robbery and cultist attack. During the evenings, the State University's environs are always at a standstill due to cultist attacks while the Federal University's axis of the municipality suffers humiliation from armed teenage boys. Who is to be blamed for this? Is it the helpless residents or our inefficient institutions responsible for the protection of our lives and properties?

But really, could this be the beginning of an end to the rosy, serene and clean city of Calabar or is this just a temporary challenge because, even the ban on motorcycles hasn't disturbed this criminal activities in any way.

At a time like this, I strongly advice all Calabar residents to restrain from staying out late and should also play a role in their safety by ensuring they report all suspicious movements and gathering in their neighbourhood to the police before they become victims. In all, let's take full responsibility for whatever happens around us and then maintain the cliche: Calabar - Come And Live And Be At Rest.

Calabar, ayaya akpa!!!
